Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Script Doctor to join our creative team during the development of a new project in development - Infinite Monkeys franchise. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of storytelling, character development, and genre conventions, along with the ability to provide constructive feedback and collaborate closely with writers and directors. This role will be pivotal in refining scripts to ensure they resonate with target audiences and align with the overarching vision of the franchise.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Script Evaluation: Review and analyze existing scripts and treatments, identifying strengths and weaknesses in structure, character arcs, dialogue, and pacing. Provide thorough notes and actionable feedback to enhance the overall quality and coherence of the scripts.
2. Rewriting and Editing: Collaborate with writers to rewrite scenes, dialogue, and character interactions to improve clarity, impact, and emotional depth. Ensure that scripts adhere to industry standards while maintaining the unique voice and tone of the franchise.
3. Character Development: Work with the creative team to develop multi-dimensional characters that resonate with audiences and serve the narrative effectively. Suggest adjustments to character motivations, backgrounds, and relationships to enhance the emotional stakes of the story.
4. Genre Expertise: Utilize knowledge of genre conventions and audience expectations to inform script revisions, ensuring alignment with the franchise’s intended themes and tone. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and successful franchises to incorporate relevant elements that will engage viewers.
5. Collaboration and Communication: Foster a positive and collaborative environment with writers, producers, and directors, facilitating open discussions about creative direction and script revisions. Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute original ideas that align with the franchise’s vision.
6. Timely Delivery: Provide feedback and revisions within established deadlines to maintain the development schedule. Be flexible and responsive to changes in direction and feedback from the broader creative team.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Film, Screenwriting, Creative Writing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in script analysis, development, or rewriting within the film and television industry. Proven track record of working on successful projects, preferably in franchise development or similar media properties.
- Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail. Strong understanding of narrative structure, character development, and audience engagement strategies. Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
- Personal Attributes: A passion for storytelling and a deep appreciation for the art of screenwriting. A collaborative spirit and a positive attitude, with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback gracefully. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
