Mark Gunnion
Writer / Welcome to Calamityville
Mark Gunnion was born in Indianapolis, and was making animated monster movies by the time he was 12. A theater jock, cover-band guitarist and champion impromptu speaker in high school, he got a film degree at Northwestern, then moved to California to pursue a musical career. In San Francisco, he produced and hosted a variety show on cable access TV that covered the underground music scene. He produced other bands' demos, and wrote and performed music in a series of rock, punk, and avant-garde musical groups, singing and playing bass, guitar and percussion. His musical peak came as a singer and guitarist for a four-piece vocal group known as The Genuine Diamelles. That group had a good run, playing the Fillmore twice, and opening for acts like The Tubes, Chris Isaak, and even three shows for David Bowie. After he quit playing live, Mark was a DJ on several pirate radio stations and online music streamers, and was co-founder of the first pirate TV station west of the Mississippi - Pirate Cat TV, which broadcast for a year on channel 13 in San Francisco. In 1996, Mark began an almost 30-year career as a creator of names for new products and companies around the world, a practice he continues to this day. In 2015, he began writing feature "spec" screenplays in the Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi and Thriller genres, winning the Grand Prize at the Fade-In Awards, "Best Comedy" at three festivals, and 50 other laurels at festivals and competitions worldwide.
